Jethro Tull: Living With The Past

A veritable feast awaits fans of Ian Anderson's Jethro Tull on this elaborate DVD package, which boasts extensive concert footage and a load of extras. The focal point is nearly two hours of performances, filmed in late 2001 (primarily in London, with additional material from several other locations) and featuring material from the band's entire lengthy career, including such staples as "Aqualung" and "Bouree." The current Tull incarnation (featuring, as always, Anderson on vocals, flute, and sundry other instruments) takes center stage; there are also a couple of numbers with a string quartet, and even a small-club reunion of the lineup that made the group's very first album back in 1968. Interviews with band members, testimonials from rabid fans, photos, and even an option for viewing a Tull performance from three different audience points of view are among the generous helping of extra features.

Moreover, we are going to talk about the system and history of the tarot and the method of automatic drawing designed by the artist himself. Sweetheart of the Navy

Singer Joan Whitney, called the "Sweetheart of the Navy" by sailors, is struggling to re-open the Snug Harbor Cafe. After her partner, Richard, skips town with the money owed to their creditors, the club opens unceremoniously. Two of Joan's sailor friends, Andy and Pete, offer to help her raise money for the club by staging a fight with Bumper Martin, boxing champion of the fleet. At Andy's request, straight-laced yeoman Eddie Harris replaces him in the upcoming fight. Andy and Pete then intimidate or coerce the sailors into betting on the fight, promising to give Joan the profits. Navy Commander Lodge, who is grooming Eddie for the Naval Academy at Annapolis, is against the fight, however, and Joan decides to "vamp" Eddie to make him fight.

Caterina va in città

Caterina lascia la provincia con la famiglia e si trasferisce a Roma. Qui, si inserisce con disinvoltura nella vita cittadina, divisa fra l'amicizia con la figlia di un sottosegretario fascistoide e quella con la figlia di due "alternativi" sinistroidi. Virzì, dopo i tentennamenti e la mezza delusione di "My name is Tanino", torna con vigore al suo territorio prediletto, quello della commedia a sfondo sociale e politico. In questo caso la posizione è un po' sfumata, e meno definita che in precedenza: al centro della vicenda, infatti, non è più la lotta di classe o le amarezze della classe operia, ma la vacuità di valori di una gioventù che non sa più a cosa appigliarsi, dato che neppure i genitori offrono certezze condivisibili. Amaro e cinico come solo i maestri della commedia all'italiana sapevano in passato essere, Virzì si candida ad essere il cantore più credibile della crisi di una società che si morde incessantemente la coda, oltre che un ottimo direttore di attori.

Le armonie di Werckmeister

In un piccolo villaggio della pianura ungherese, alla vigilia di un’eclisse di sole, fa la sua comparsa un circo costituito esclusivamente da due attrazioni: un principe e una balena. Janos, un giovane postino, è l’occhio attraverso cui si vede svolgersi l’intera vicenda. Il paesino, segnato da lotte intestine e presagi di guerra, si fa presto coinvolgere dalla dialettica del principe e si appresta a un massacro di innocenti.

Tigre in agguato

Il terrore invade le strade quando una tigre del Bengala, definita mangiatrice di uomini, viene accidentalmente a trovarsi libera in una piccola città della provincia americana. Di colpo la cittadina si trasforma in una giungal caotica dove i lati più oscuri della natura umana hanno il sopravvento. Mentre lo sceriffo, sua figlia e un domatore indiano tentano di catturare il pericoloso animale, individui senza scrupoli sfruttano la caccia alla tigre per i loro interessi personali.

Alla fine Mike cede alle insistenze del ragazzo e accetta di esibirsi insieme a lui. Del circo fa parte anche Lola, ragazza priva di talento, che vorrebbe esibirsi con Tino e Mike.

Il famoso acrobata Sebastian è assunto dal circo Bradley, con disappunto di Olly, stella dello spettacolo. Tra i due si crea una forte rivalità. Offeso dalle insinuazioni della sua rivale, Sebastian decide di fare il numero senza rete, ma cade e resta con un braccio paralizzato. Olly, pentita, cerca di farsi perdonare con il suo amore. Rutilante affresco circense firmato Cecil B. De Mille, pieno di colpi di scnea e tuttavia piuttosto statico. Oscar per il miglior film e per il soggetto.

I membri di una troupe circense "adottano" Lili Daurier quando si ritrova bloccata in una città sconosciuta. Il mago che la soccorre per primo ha già dei legami sentimentali e pensa a lei come a una bambina. A chi può rivolgersi se non ai burattini, cantando loro i suoi problemi, dimenticando che esistono i burattinai? Una folla si raduna intorno a Lili mentre canta. Il circo ha un nuovo numero.
