Lynyrd Skynyrd : Live at Winterland 1975

By the time Lynyrd Skynyrd played this sold-out show at San Francisco's Winterland ballroom on April 7th, 1975, they had become the unmistakable kings of Southern Rock. Spearheaded by charismatic frontman, Ronnie Van Zant, the group had taken southern boogie from the swamps and brought it to the masses. There is an enormous amount of energy and power in the multiple guitar mix of the band, and that is clearly apparent when they launch into solos on these songs. The group was coming off two hugely successful albums, its debut (pronounced leh-nerd skin-nerd) and 1974's Second Helping, and they had recently replaced original drummer Bob Burns with Artimus Pyle. It was recorded during the band's tour promoting their 1975 album, Nuthin' Fancy, and it features Lynyrd Skynyrd at the top of their game. It was also one of the last shows featuring their original three-guitar lineup, as Ed King left the band midway through the tour.

Bus driver Stan Butler agrees to marry Suzy, much to the anguish of Mum, her son-in-law, Arthur, and daughter Olive. How, they wonder, will they ever manage without Stan's money coming in? Stan then blackmails the Depot Manager into giving him the job of driver on the new money-making Special Tours Bus. Richard Dadier ottiene un posto d'insegnante di lingua inglese presso una scuola popolare di avviamento al lavoro. Si dedica al lavoro con slancio, ma il suo entusiasmo viene messo a dura prova. La scuola è frequentata in gran parte, da adolescenti che provengono dagli strati più bassi della popolazione. Sono ragazzi cinici, spietati, alcuni sembrano già avere il comportamento del delinquente ed anche nei casi meno gravi quei ragazzi non mostrano alcun desiderio di apprendere e frequentano la scuola solo perché la legge glielo impone.

Bonariamente lo perseguita il commissario Malvasia (Calindri). Quando i rispettivi figli ignari s'innamorano i due padri fanno pace. Da una mediocre sceneggiatura di Castellano & Pipolo, più che un film, una catena di sketch che consentono ai due compari di scatenarsi in esuberanti gag, dialoghi divertenti, spassosi personaggi. Primo dei 6 film di Totò con Nino Taranto, la sua "spalla più umile che in privato non riuscì mai a dargli del tu".
