Squadriglia eroica

In un paesaggio di campagna, una gran varietà di uccelli si muove e canta al ritmo di alcuni brani musicali. Si vedono quattro cigni che nuotano, un pavone che apre a ruota la sua coda, due uccelli del paradiso che suonano le loro code come arpe, uccelli vari (tra i quali colibrì e cucù) che cantano sui rami di un albero, un picchio che insegue un millepiedi e tre civette che si esibiscono cantando. Un corvo, dopo aver rubato un bruco a un altro uccello, lo porta ai suoi tre figlioletti, ma il bruco scappa e viene inseguito da una gallina e i suoi pulcini che a loro volta vengono assaliti da un falco. Il rapace cattura un pulcino che si era separato dal gruppo, ma il corvo raduna uno stormo che attacca il falco fino a spennarlo, facendogli cadere il pulcino e accompagnando quest'ultimo a terra sano e salvo per la gioia dei famigliari.

In the 1840's Mexico has ceded California to the United States, making life nearly impossible for the Mexican population due to the influx of land and gold-crazy Americans. Farmer Joaquin Murrieta revenges the death of his wife against the four Americans who killed her and is branded an outlaw. The reward for his capture is increased as he subsequently kills the men who brutally murder his brother. Joining with bandit Three Fingered Jack, Murrieta raises an army of disaffected Mexicans and goes on a rampage against the Americans, finally forcing his erstwhile friend, Bill Warren, to lead a posse against him.

La casa dei piccoli cubi

Un vecchio vive solo in una casa in mezzo al mare. L'acqua sale costantemente e all'uomo non resta che costruire un piano in più ogni volta che ve ne è la necessità, abbandonando il piano che si allaga e trasferendosi a quello superiore. Quando la pipa del vecchio scivola in acqua attraverso la botola che collega il suo piano a quelli sottostanti, lui pensa dapprima di acquistarne una nuova, ma poi preferisce comprare l'occorrente per immergersi e andarla a cercare. L'attrezzatura da sub permette al vecchio di ripercorrere la propria vita: ogni stanza in cui scende lo porta indietro con la memoria ai momenti di famiglia vissuti nel corso degli anni. Scendendo fino al fondale su cui è costruita la casa, il vecchio non recupera soltanto la pipa, ma anche il calice con cui beveva la sua giovane moglie: tornato in superficie, l'uomo consuma la sua solita cena, ma versando il vino in due calici.

Iblard jikan ("Il tempo di Iblard") è un OAV dello Studio Ghibli della durata di circa 30 minuti ed è diviso in 8 parti, ognuna sviluppata partendo da alcuni dipinti di Naohisa Inoue e con alcune parti animate in computer grafica. L'anime non ha una trama evidente, è come una serie di dipinti in cui si notano solo alcune parti o figure in movimento, le prime immagini sono relativamente realistiche poi diventano man mano più surreali e oniriche. È praticamente privo di dialoghi.
