Prigioniero di guerra, nello zoo di Monaco Stephen Brooks deve curarsi di Lucy, un'elefantessa, e le si affeziona a tal punto che, avutane l'occasione, rinuncia a fuggire. Dovendo trasferire Lucy a Innsbruck, Stephen viaggia con due militari e una giovane cuoca. Lungo la strada, Brooks sopprime un soldato della scorta che minacciava di uccidere Lucy, poi decide di raggiungere la Svizzera valicando i monti insieme all'animale. L'originalità del soggetto trabocca nell'eccesso, e il film diventa stucchevole. Uno dei classici colossi semiseri e strampalati che si producevano nel periodo.

Madrid risponde con entusiasmo a entrambe le proposte e le cerimonie vengono organizzate in ogni dettaglio. Lo scambio delle principesse avverrà in pompa magna su una piccola isola sul fiume al confine tra le due nazioni. Tutti si aspettano il meglio dai ragazzi ma niente andrà come previsto.

Life of a Mutt

Through seven scenes, the film follows the life and destinies of stray dogs from the margins of our society, leading us to reconsider our attitude towards them. Through the seven “wandering” characters that we follow at different ages, from birth to old age, we witness their dignified struggle for survival. At the cemetery, in an abandoned factory, in an asylum, in a landfill, in places full of sorrow, our heroes search for love and togetherness. By combining documentary material, animation and acting interpretation of the thoughts of our heroes, we get to know lives between disappointment and hope, quite similar to ours.

Deluso in amore, giovanotto americano parte per Bananas, piccola repubblica sudamericana, dove, dopo varie vicissitudini, viene nominato presidente dei rivoluzionari al potere e come tale torna negli Stati Uniti. 2° film di Allen regista, scritto come il primo con Mickey Rose. “Scandalosamente divertente” scrissero. Una collana di gag comiche ottime, discrete, mediocri. Uno dei suoi film più anarchici, comunque. Primo film, non accreditato, di S. Stallone nella particina di un teppista della metro.

È il film della svolta (verso il dramma) di Allen, proiettato nel mondo tolstoiano di Guerra e pace per cavarne una stravagante e sgangherata farsa che sconfina talvolta in Dostoevskij. Raccomandato ai cinefili per la miriade di citazioni e ammiccamenti.
