Chick Corea New Trio-Rendezvous In New York (2005)

Il trio qui presentato è formato da Corea con gli unici altri due musicisti attualmente in seno al suo gruppo ed è in pratica una versione ridotta della band Origin. Il materiale eseguito, tutto scritto da Armando Corea (padre di Chick e leader di una propria band) negli anni '30, mantiene la stessa impronta latina della band allargata, ma ne accentua l'essenzialità. Chi maggiormente ne guadagna è senz'altro il bassista Avishai Cohen, che aumenta gli scambi con Jeff Ballard e brilla come solista in "Nostalgia". Da parte sua il batterista, che pure non possiede la statura di Weckl o Haynes, dimostra di possedere tecnica ed inventiva, regalando un bell'un assolo di rullante in ."Revolving Door".

Un vero e proprio viaggio nel tempo, con due grandi musicisti quali il bassista Miroslav Vitous ed il batterista Roy Haynes a raggiungere sul palco Corea per la riproposizione di materiale da loro inciso nel 1967, in uno dei primi dischi di Chick Corea come leader di una band (anche se questa reunion non è la prima: Corea, Vitous ed Haynes si erano già ritrovati ad inizio anni '80).Con questa incredibile sezione ritmica Chick Corea incise nel 1967 "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs"; ecco la possibilità di rivedere questo progetto dal vivo, a dimostrazione che l'età non scalfisce l'arte dei grandi musicisti.

The Balcony

Soviet eighties. A little town in the periphery. After his parents' divorce, 11-year-old Rolanas and his dad move in next door to same-aged Emilija. Friendship is born between the kids, however, shyness or fear of opening up makes them communicate through the wall, sitting in their own balconies, or through a socket connecting their flats. Emilija's parents also appear to be on the verge of divorce. The children discover common topics, activities. Unfortunately, a nearly tragic accident prevents Emilija to go to the balcony. This encourages both children to set out for a "real" date.
