Theo Maassen: Ruwe Pit

Maassen won two of the biggest comedy contests in the Netherlands in 1990, the Groninger Studenten Cabaret Festival(GSCF), and Cameretten. The GSCF jury was not pleased with the quality of the contestants that year, and gave Maassen the first prize, remarking he was the best of the year, but still not very good. In the following years, however, Maassen fame grew steadily, especially amongst students. Maassens style was based on stand-up comedy: Alone on stage, telling jokes and stories to amuse the public, without any musical support (a thing common for most Dutch comedians up to that point).

Dhafer Youssef è diventato uno dei musicisti tunisini più conosciuti e apprezzati al mondo. Compositore, cantante e suonatore di oud, Youssef proprio grazie a questo strumento, dal quale riesce a trarre composizioni complesse improntate sulla tradizione araba, rappresenta un’unicità nella scena musicale contemporanea. Le radici della sua musica affondano nella tradizione Sufi e nella musica mistica, ma il musicista tunisino è sempre stato aperto alla musica di altre culture e al jazz. Youssef ha collaborato, tra gli altri, con Uri Caine, Tigran Hamasyan, Jon Hassell, Markus Stockhausen, Nguyên Lê, Omar Sosa, Hüsnü Senlendirici, il chitarrista norvegese Eivind Aarset e il trombettista Paolo Fresu.
