Al di là del mistero

Uno scienziato pazzo, con la complicità del suo deforme compagno di cella, fugge di prigione con l'intento di assassinare coloro che precedentemente avevano testimoniato contro di lui. Durante il suo peregrinare, si imbatte nel Circo degli orrori di Lampini, il quale possiede lo scheletro del conte Dracula. Ucciso Lampini e sostituitosi a lui, risveglia il conte rimuovendo il paletto che ne trafigge il cuore, per farsi aiutare nei suoi scopi. Non resistendo alla sua natura di vampiro, Dracula tenta di vampirizzare una donna, ma scoperto, è costretto a fuggire mentre il giorno si avvicina, morendo incenerito dai raggi del sole.

Nella città di Tokyo un'arma satellitare apre un varco temporale dal presente al passato, attraverso il quale arriva un uovo argentato dal quale nasce una libellula gigante (identica alle larve del film Rodan) che arriva nella città e deposita un agglomerato di uova da cui nascono centinaia di insetti giganti. Alcuni di essi prelevano del sangue di Godzilla, nel frattempo giunto in città. Dopo un primo duello con Godzilla gli insetti si uniscono insieme al D.N.A di Godzilla facendo nascere Megagurius, un insetto gigante che ricorda molto la sorella di Mothra, Battra, anche se più spaventosa. Nel duello finale Godzilla sconfiggerà Megaguirus con un potentissimo raggio atomico salvando la città.

Ma il pensiero di Alazhar è sempre rivolto alla sua amatissima moglie Izhira prossima a dare alla luce il loro primogenito. Non sopportando il distacco egli cerca continuamente di riprendere la via del ritorno, costringendo i tre Re a fare ricorso alle loro arti magiche.

Il film non stenta a decollare: spettacolari duelli volanti e coreografie mozzafiato si collocano a dovere in un contesto allegretto, più che semplice collante tra le numerosissime scene d'azione

Death Note 2 - Il film - L'ultimo nome

Misa Amane, entrata in possesso del Death Note, inizia a imitare "Kira" di cui è una fan.Light Yagami, entrato a far parte del gruppo di ricerca di Kira, capisce che un simile alleato può fargli comodo per uccidere L, che continua a sospettare la sua colpevolezza. Misa riesce a trovare Light e gli chiede di fidanzarsi, assicurandogli pieno sostegno. Proprio quando Misa riesce a vedere L di persona, scoprendone il vero nome, questo la fa rapire e segregare (avendo rinvenuto le prove che ella è il secondo Kira). Dopo diversi giorni di reclusione, ormai allo stremo, Misa chiede a Rem di ucciderla e la dea della morte la fa rinunciare al Death Note in modo da farle dimenticare di esser stata Kira. Rem riferisce poi a Light l'accaduto, ordinandogli di salvare la ragazza. Egli si fa allora internare, al fine di dimostrare di non poter essere Kira, dopodiché rinuncia anch'egli al quaderno.

Harlan County U.S.A.

This film documents the coal miners' strike against the Brookside Mine of the Eastover Mining Company in Harlan County, Kentucky in June, 1973. Eastovers refusal to sign a contract (when the miners joined with the United Mine Workers of America) led to the strike, which lasted more than a year and included violent battles between gun-toting company thugs/scabs and the picketing miners and their supportive women-folk. Director Barbara Kopple puts the strike into perspective by giving us some background on the historical plight of the miners and some history of the UMWA. Preserved by the Academy Film Archive in partnership with New York Women in Film & Television in 2004.
