What We Find on the Road

On TJ's 18th birthday, a stranger delivers him a key from his father, last seen as he was hauled off to prison eight years earlier. With the key is an address for a proposed meeting – 3000 miles away and in two weeks. The key unlocks a timeworn 1968 convertible, with a coffin welded to its floor. With each decision that follows, TJ plunges deeper into the mysterious and beautiful landscapes we all navigate – on our own, with our tribe, through the shifting turns of the road ahead.

Dolphins: The Wild Side follows these mammals in the wild as they fight for mating rights, hunt for food, and clash with other dolphin species. Thanks to some brilliant underwater camerawork, we're treated to the sight of dolphins hydroplaning through 10 inches of water after fish, ramming one other in a quarrel over females, and evading a group of hungry orcas in Alaska. (Killer whales are actually part of the dolphin family, but they feel no compunction about feeding on their smaller cousins--not a scene for the squeamish!) But perhaps the most impressive part of this documentary are the scenes of a dolphin pod working in concert to trap a shimmering, mammoth school of sardines. Through calculated use of air bubbles, tail slaps, and sonic pips, the animals corral their prey and have a feast. The clever, and at times ruthless, nature of these mammals is on abundant display in this entertaining documentary

Gli strilloni (Newsies) è un film-musical, prodotto dalla Disney nel 1992, diretto da Kenny Ortega, con le musiche scritte da Alan Menken. La storia si basa su fatti realmente accaduti alla fine dell'800 a New York. Capitanati dall'intraprendente e carismatico diciassettenne Jack "Cowboy" Kelly (Christian Bale), gli strilloni del New York World decidono di ribellarsi alla sovrattassa imposta dall'editore Joseph Pulitzer (Robert Duvall) e si riuniscono in un sindacato, organizzando uno sciopero. Si tratta di un documentario marino che in forma fiabesca ci riporta al mistero del leggendario continente scomparso tra le acque dell'oceano. La vita subacquea ne è la protagonista esclusiva: i pesci, l'insieme della fauna marina e, in particolare, i delfini sono al centro dell'attenzione di Luc Besson. Niente parole di commento: soltanto immagini, a volte suggestive a volte un po' meno, e la musica composta per l'occasione da Eric Serra (ma c'è anche un'aria dalla "Sonnambula" cantata dalla Callas).

Durante l'ultima guerra, la signorina Eglantine Price deve accogliere in casa due ragazzi e una bambina, Charlie, Paul e Carrie, sfuggiti ai bombardamenti di Londra. I giovani sfollati non tardano a scoprire che la loro ospite è una apprendista strega, che segue un corso per corrispondenza ed Eglantine li mette al corrente dei suoi progressi. Improvvisamente il corso per corrispondenza viene interrotto e i quattro si precipitano a Londra, a bordo di un letto magico, per scoprire il perchè: trovano il signor Emelius Brown, il docente, che ha perduto una parte del libro da cui traeva le sue lezioni, e tutti insieme si danno da fare per cercarlo. Dopo varie peripezie vengono a conoscenza delle nozioni che loro mancavano. In tal modo Eglantine, allorchè i tedeschi tentano uno sbarco nei pressi di Pepperinge, può mobilitare magicamente tutte le antiche armature di un castello delle vicinanze e ricacciarli in mare. Dopo di che la donna rinuncia alla magia per vivere nella realtà.
