The ranch is left to Talbot's 12-year-old ward, Duke Lowery, much to the dismay of Talbot's niece, Jan Holloway. After some attempts on Duke's life, Roy finally proves that Jan, Steve McClory and coroner Jim Judnick had Talbot killed and are conspiring to do the same for Duke, making Jan the last heir.

Un Rigoletto indimenticabile, quello che va in scena al Metropolitan nel novembre 1977. Nel ruolo del titolo spicca uno dei protagonisti di quegli anni al teatro di New York: Cornell MacNeil, capace di donare al personaggio del buffone una tinta umanissima, ma senza trascurarne il lato malvagio. Placido Domingo è un Duca strepitoso, per mezzi vocali e travolgente carica vitale; Ileana Cotrubas una Gilda perfetta, fragile e implorante. Di alto livello anche il resto del cast, nel quale spiccano il possente Monterone di John Cheek e l'avvenente Maddalena di Isola Jones. La direzione di James Levine si distingue per un impressionante, serratissimo ritmo drammatico.
