Uno studente di filosofia rifiuta la vita borghese e si dà a letture rivoluzionarie e discussioni politiche, senza però realizzare il desiderio di rivolta che cova in sé. Dopo aver condiviso la sua attività politica con un gruppo operaio, viene espulso dall'università. Chiamato sotto le armi, finisce per disertare. Aderisce infine al movimento anarchico e compie un attentato nei confronti di un giudice. Interessante film sull'inquietudine giovanile americana tra gli anni Sessanta e Settanta. All'analisi politica predilige quella esistenziale, il cast è notevole, il tono narrativo è secco, efficace è il punto di vista in "presa diretta" sulla realtà.
