Il film Made in Hong Kong offre uno sguardo su una Hong Kong poco prima del passaggio alla Cina. Sei diverse storie di vita si mescolano ai paesaggi urbani saggistici del regista per formare un ritratto sfaccettato di Hong Kong. Sempre più spesso si intravedono anche gli enormi problemi che la città portuale dovrà affrontare in futuro: la ristrettezza geografica, la concretezza architettonica, l'economia in esplosione e l'incertezza politica relativa al 1997.
