Newspaper and lottery ticket vendors, propagandists offering their ware for a few pfennigs, all convey the mood of a time when need made people inventive.

Mentre sta per sparare sulle ultime uova di critters, Charlie (Don Keith Opper) riceve un avviso in cui si comunica che sarebbe illegale farlo perché porterebbe all’estinzione la razza. Gli viene inviata una capsula dove inserire le uova, ma ci finisce dentro anche lui e va alla deriva nello spazio. Cinquantantre anni dopo, un team di recuperatori di relitti arriva su una base spaziale ancora funzionante benché apparentemente deserta. Il capo del team Rick (Anders Hove) ha un piano personale in mente: recuperare il prezioso carico della base e filarsela. Nel farlo però apre la capsula e trova Charlie, che si risveglia. Trova anche i critters, che lo uccidono e si disperdono per la base, famelici come sempre.

Rosetta

Rosetta, che non è ancora maggiorenne, si deve far carico della madre alcolizzata con cui vive in una roulotte in un camping ai margini di un bosco. Licenziata da una fabbrica dove era stata assunta in prova va in città per vendere alcuni abiti usati e conosce Riquet che lavora in un chiosco dove si vendono cialde. Rosetta viene assunta e al contempo ha anche finalmente un amico che le rimane accanto anche quando, qualche giorno dopo, viene nuovamente licenziata. La ragazza, dopo l'ennesimo scontro con la madre, decide di abbandonare la roulotte e riceve ospitalità da Riquet. Il bisogno di trovare un lavoro continua però a tormentarla.

La ricerca rivela loro che i lutti non fermano la vita e che la catastrofe non fa dimenticare i campionati del mondo di calcio. Intrecciando con grande intelligenza cinematografica realtà e finzione, Kiarostami dà un saggio della sua idea di "realismo". Ugualmente ci dimostra come sia possibile raccontare anche la più terribile tragedia con i toni della commedia. Teorico ed emozionante nello stesso tempo.
