Abbandonata dalla madre e cresciuta in un orfanotrofio, Billie Frank conosce nei primi anni '80 il famoso disc-jockey Dice che scopre e mette a frutto le sue doti canore, producendole il primo disco, e s'innamora di lei, ricambiato. Presto il suo successo di cantante li separa. Nonostante il titolo (glitter = scintillio), la storia, vagamente ispirata alla biografia di M. Carey, dà poca luce: la regia non sa accenderla. Discutibile, secondo gli esperti, anche la colonna sonora in cui i rapper ospiti prevalgono sulla bella protagonista.
