Suo figlio William, però, non apprezza questa sua presunta mancanza di serietà e per questo con il tempo si allontana da suo padre. Quando Edward si ammala gravemente Will intraprende un personale viaggio alla scoperta della vita del padre che lo porterà a scoprire il gusto del racconto e che le storie raccontate dal padre hanno più verità di quanta se ne potesse immaginare!

Disoccupato, inseguito da un poliziotto, Charlot trova rifugio e lavoro in un circo come clown (involontario) e s'innamora della cavallerizza. Pur nella ricchezza delle invenzioni comiche (Charlot sulla corda, assalito dalle scimmie; il baraccone degli specchi, ecc.), appare un riepilogo di motivi già sfruttati, ma approfondisce con tristezza struggente la dimensione sentimentale del suo personaggio di reietto. ("Un debole omino calpestato/ da Los Angeles a qui/ recita attraverso gli oceani..." V. Majakovskij.) Quando, però, il film che lo stesso autore non teneva tra i suoi più riusciti ritornò in circolazione negli anni '60, in una nuova edizione musicata dallo stesso Chaplin, esso incantò un'altra generazione di spettatori. Non a caso Federico Fellini lo adorava.

A Bug's Life - Megaminimondo

Dalla Disney-Pixar un film di John Lasseter, già acclamato regista di Toy Story. Siamo a Central Park, in una piccola colonia di dolcissime formiche, purtroppo indebolite dalla siccità e assediate dalla perfida banda di cavallette guidate dal cattivo Hopper. Flik, la giovane protagonista, è un inventore pasticcione ma dal cuore grande. Capisce che solo con un aiuto esterno potrà salvare la colonia, e così parte per un viaggio durante il quale assolda un gruppo di insetti-attori, provenienti da un circo di pulci, con i quali sconfigge Hopper e conquista l'amore della principessa Atta. L'eterna lotta tra il bene ed il male è qui sorretta da una trama ricca di situazioni esilaranti e di dialoghi brillanti. Ottima la caratterizzazione dei personaggi, tanto che alla fine, durante i titoli di coda, vengono proposti i "ciak sbagliati", come se si fosse girato un film con attori veri. Sicuramente un film d'animazione ben riuscito, affascinante e divertente anche per un pubblico adulto.

In realtà, lo spettacolo costituisce l'alibi per poter, nottetempo, rapire giovani ragazze e realizzare un esperimento che confermerebbe la validità della teoria sull'evoluzione dell'uomo dalla scimmia: individuare un gruppo sanguigno compatibile con quello di Erik per affiancargli una compagna. Poiché le prigioniere non sopravvivono alle trasfusioni, Mirakle con l'aiuto del fedele assistente Janos si sbarazza dei loro corpi gettandoli nella Senna, ma il giovane Pierre Dupin, analizzando i cadaveri, si insospettisce e va a curiosare nel laboratorio di Mirakle appena in tempo per evitare la morte a Camille, sua fidanzata, che il folle scienziato ha appena fatto rapire da Erik.
