Charles e Paul sono cugini, ma di indole diversissima. Quanto il primo è serio tanto l'altro è frivolo. Costretti a vivere insieme e a frequentare la stessa gente, le diversità del loro carattere si manifestano ancor più chiaramente. Tra l'altro Paul, estroverso e simpatico, passa di conquista in conquista, mentre il cugino timido e maldestro è continuamente frustrato. Nell'ambito degli studi dovrebbe essere Charles ad avere la meglio e invece viene bocciato mentre il cugino terribile, giocando sulla sua sicurezza, è promosso.
