In Italia il film è distribuito da Lucky Red, in una versione accorciata di circa 30 minuti (da 135 a 92 minuti).

Il messaggio pacifista è appesantito da un impianto allegorico, ma non sono molti i registi che come Boorman sanno mettere in immagini il rapporto dell'uomo con la natura selvaggia.
