Dinosauri a colazione

Sul letto di morte Saul Gritz, un produce americano, si fa giurare dall amico Joe Mulholland che produrrà un film, ispirandosi al libro di gran voga love in sex. Joe accetta anche per far recuperare alla società cui appartiene un milione di dollari di un film-fiction a suo tempo messo allo studio e di cui poi non si fece nulla, ad eccezione di un orrendo dinosauro, testé piazzato in memoria del defunto nel giardino della società stessa. Joe dunque convoca Sid Spokance, un regista fanatico dei vecchi divi, lo sceneggiatore Herb Derman ed altri "cervelli" della produzione. Ma sono tentativi vani: nessuno riesce a far brillare uno spunto, ne a tesserci intorno una storia valida, forse anche perché i convocati hanno quasi tutti - ad eccezione proprio di Joe - vite emotive e familiari complicate e rappezzate. Così il film non si farà e, tutto sommato, ognuno capisce in cuor suo che probabilmente si sarebbe andati incontro ad un sicuro insuccesso.

Panda

The A.R.M.S. Benefit Concert from London

The idea for hosting the concert was envisaged by Ronnie Lane, ex-bassist for The Small Faces and The Faces, himself a casualty of multiple sclerosis. The concert was billed as The Ronnie Lane Appeal for ARMS and featured a star-studded line-up of British musicians, including Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Steve Winwood, Andy Fairweather Low, Bill Wyman, Kenney Jones and Charlie Watts. The concert was particularly notable in the fact that it was the first occasion on which Clapton, Beck and Page, each a former lead guitarist for The Yardbirds, had performed together on stage.

The Liars

Zac is a well-respected French filmmaker who creates a major uproar when for no apparent reason he suddenly vanishes from his posh Parisian apartment leaving behind his lover Helene, a popular star. Marcus, his producer searches for eight months before locating Zac who has since become a homeless street bum in an expensive neighborhood. Marcus sends Zac to a posh hotel. He then sends Daisy, an ambitious secretary and aspiring screenwriter to learn what happened to the great director. It takes a lot of mutual verbal sparring and false turns (which are presented as creatively filmed vignettes that are done using a variety of techniques) from Zac before he finally tells her the truth. The two then decide to turn the story into a film. As they write, Daisy and Zac slowly fall in love. At the same time, Marcus has his hands full trying to avoid some tough Russian Mafiosos who want the money they invested back.

Dead Bait

Lisa is fried in the heat of the sun. She is sick, miserable and out of water, but finds a lake to cool down in. A local sports-fisherman spies on her, but when Lisa drowns, he is stuck with a blond, naked "dead bait". What to do then?

The programme includes rare archive footage of the Cavern Club in the sixties, including film of The Beatles performing ‘Some Other Guy’ at the club. On 9 February 1961, having recently returned to Liverpool from performing in Hamburg, The Beatles played at The Cavern for the first of nearly 300 appearances at the club. By the time they played their last gig there, Beatlemania had swept Britain and the band was conquering the world.

Between 1954-1962, one hundred to three hundred young French people refused to participate in the Algerian war. These rebels, soldiers or conscripts were non-violent or anti-colonialists. Some took refuge in Switzerland where Swiss citizens came to their aid, while in France they were condemned as traitors to the country. In 1962, a few months after Independence, Villi Hermann went to a region devastated by war near the Algerian-Moroccan border, to help rebuild a school. In 2016 he returned to Algeria and reunited with his former students. He also met French refractories, now living in France or Switzerland.
