Frantic Attempts

Matthias is going on a weekend course of self-discovery called “My Value on Earth,” which was an expensive gift from his girlfriend. The course is supposed to help him deal with his chronic inability to finish things that he’s started. But before Matthias leaves, his girlfriend springs a surprise on him: he’s going to be a father. And so he hopes to use the weekend, which he has no real desire to go on, to answer new and pressing questions. The “alternative” therapist, however, doesn’t inspire much trust. The tragicomedy Frantic Attempts takes aim at the field of personal development, in particular, dubious therapists who offer quick fixes. After all, what if we should answer our existential questions ourselves instead of trying to find answers from others?

In this final installment, aired November 5, 1969, in what had become an annual tradition of televised specials, Sinatra cast a backward glance at some of the highlights of a storied career with Don Costa and his Orchestra as guest performer. He also provides a glimpse into his musical future with an early rendition of " My Way ", soon to become his personal anthem.

Una simpatica signora li aiuta nelle faccende di casa, ma loro la trattano come se fosse della famiglia. L'uomo però non è il rispettabilissimo marito che sembra: ha un'amante che non sa niente della moglie e che è stanca di vivere da sola. Per non farsi abbandonare gli viene un'idea brillante: andare a convivere con l'amante nella casa adiacente a quella in cui vive con la moglie. As he looks over the dusty, deserted remains of the western "boom town" of Panamint, grizzled old prospector Chuckawalla Bill Redfield recalls the town's glory days. Looming large in Chuckawalla's reminiscences is the day that young and apparently mild-mannerd minister Philip Pharo rode into town. In his own gentle but forceful fashion, Pharo managed to bring the town's lawless element into line, mollify the local bluenoses, and win the heart of likeable dance-hall girl Mary Mallory.
