Obon è la festa giapponese delle lanterne: una breve finestra nel tempo durante la quale i morti fanno visita ai vivi, in estate. Lo racconta un vecchio giapponese, amante della musica, a Claire Emery, leggendaria cantante francese che ha appena tenuto un concerto sold out a Tokyo e che adesso, in un bar, ha bevuto troppo sakè. E qui comincia il viaggio tra questo e altri mondi, tra i vivi e i morti, tra le stagioni e le emozioni, tra la città e il mare, tra le canzoni che Claire ha cantato e i film che un giovane regista in crisi creativa ha realizzato.

27-year-old Eto Kana lives in Tokyo and has never been out of the city before. Meanwhile, Kana’s family gets a call about an elderly granduncle who got injured. She goes to Kyoto where he lives at the request of her worried mother and stays there for several days to take care of him.

When he is about to free Antigone, the young woman had already hanged herself. Mad with pain, Hémon commits suicide by his side.

Johnny YesNo – Redux reunites Cabaret Voltaire and Peter Care almost 30 years later with a completely new cast, a relocation to LA and an entirely new soundtrack remixed by Richard H. Kirk, the film has lost none of its hallucinatory power. The short goes deep into the structure of Peter Care’s original film and the Cabaret Voltaire tracks used in connection with it. What emerges is as much a juxtaposition of times and places as sights and sounds. The tale changes in the retelling, but that change now seems to be taking place on a molecular level. Richard H Kirk has reconfigured the film’s soundtrack, giving the proceedings an ominous sense of something slowly sliding into view from afar, glimpsed out of the corner of the eye.
