Quarta versione del romanzo di Cain, scritta da David Mamet e diretta da Rafelson che inserisce un tocco in più di realismo. Lo aiutano uno scatenato Nicholson e una convincente Lange. Memorabile la scena d'amore sul tavolo della cucina.

Ugualmente ci dimostra come sia possibile raccontare anche la più terribile tragedia con i toni della commedia. Teorico ed emozionante nello stesso tempo.
