Vasily Muravin, 50, a teacher at the Moscow Institute of Management, is experiencing a crisis. Durante il recupero Asuka Langley viene attaccata dal sistema di difesa della Nerv che consiste in un angelo creato appositamente per difendere lo Eva-01, trovatasi in difficoltà chiede disperatamente l'intervento di Shinji causando inaspettatamente la momentanea attivazione dell'unità Eva-01 che elimina l'angelo salvandola.

Altro personaggio rilevante sara' Leila Malkal, ex aristocratica britanna votatasi alla causa dell'E.U., la quale capeggia il gruppo di ribelli Wyvern, composto da giovani giapponesi. I Wyvern si lanciano incautamente sul campo di battaglia, dove le possibilita' di sopravvivenza sono incredibilmente scarse. Loro combattono per la propria liberta' e per una "casa" in cui tornare.
