Prigioniero di guerra, nello zoo di Monaco Stephen Brooks deve curarsi di Lucy, un'elefantessa, e le si affeziona a tal punto che, avutane l'occasione, rinuncia a fuggire. Dovendo trasferire Lucy a Innsbruck, Stephen viaggia con due militari e una giovane cuoca. Lungo la strada, Brooks sopprime un soldato della scorta che minacciava di uccidere Lucy, poi decide di raggiungere la Svizzera valicando i monti insieme all'animale. L'originalità del soggetto trabocca nell'eccesso, e il film diventa stucchevole. Uno dei classici colossi semiseri e strampalati che si producevano nel periodo.

Andrzej and Maciek are standing on opposite sides of the barricade. The brothers' confrontation is bloody and painful.

Questo primo film di una trilogia che vede l'Italia come coproduttore intende raccontare la storia della Grecia dall'emigrazione dalla Russia bolscevica sino alla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Lo fa, come si diceva, con grande rigore formale tanto che talvolta la storia dei due protagonisti di cui si raccontano le vicende sembra non contare.
