Il lavoro di Fausto procede con difficoltà, non solo per i problemi che il film gli pone, ma per i problemi che si presentano nella sua vita quotidiana. Dopo una lunga crisi, al termine della quale torna a Pisa con gli ex compagni di festa e si abbandona all'amore e alla propria solitudine, Fausto riprende l'opera dell'amico africano, chiudendola con un'invenzione finale, in cui, con un'audace metafora , ha rifigurato la condizione umana del nostro tempo.
