Two Singaporean girls join together to form the Papaya Sisters, a getai group that sings at performances during the seventh lunar month. Big Papaya is estranged from her mother, who disapproves of her performances, whilst Little Papaya is an orphan who suffers from terminal cancer. The two are assisted by Auntie Ling and her son, Guan Yin. The two soon rise to the top of the Singaporean getai scene singing traditional Hokkien songs, but their fame brings along with it the enmity of the Durian Sisters, a rival group of techno-singing Eurasian girls.

The masquerader [La mascherata]

Chaplin arriva agli studi Keystone, e subito il regista lo manda in camerino. Chaplin ne esce truccato da Charlot, e il regista gli spiega che la scena che si appresta a girare prevede che il vagabondo salvi un bambino che sta per essere pugnalato da un cattivo (interpretato da Jess Dandy). Ma Chaplin prima si attarda con alcune fan accorse sul set, e poi rovina la scena con la sua irruenza. Il regista decide quindi di sostituirlo con Chester Conklin, ma Chaplin per ripicca rovina nuovamente la scena. Il regista, furioso, lo insegue e quindi lo licenzia. Poco dopo, agli studi compare un'affascinante diva, calorosamente ricevuta dal regista che le promette una parte e fa sgomberare il camerino degli attori per farglielo usare. Ella si rivela però essere Chaplin travestito, che dopo aver ripreso le sembianze di Charlot, viene inseguito dal regista e dagli attori e da loro gettato in un pozzo.

Nel negozio dove lavora si cerca una trovata pubblicitaria e Harold dice al suo direttore che, allo scopo, scalerà un grattacielo: in realtà ha intenzione di scalare i primi piani e farsi sostituire da quel suo amico per i successivi. I due spartiranno i 1000 dollari del premio. Ma il poliziotto che lo seguiva ritrova quell'uomo e lo segue sul palazzo e quindi l'amico di Harold, impegnato a sfuggire al poliziotto, non può fare la scalata. Così Harold deve scalare tutto il palazzo e rischia realmente la sua vita. Ma riesce a salvarsi.
