Le trasformazioni si succederanno più volte e, una volta, Pinocchio diverrà persino somaro. La vicenda termina un poco prima del libro, cioè quando Geppetto e Pinocchio escono dal ventre della Balena: quasi un ritorno alla vita, una presa definitiva di contatto con la realtà.
