Esbjörn Svensson Trio: Jazz in Marciac

Esbjörn Svensson è nato nel 1964 a Västeras, in Svezia. Sua madre suonava il piano classico, suo padre era un fan di Duke Ellington ed Esbjörn ascoltava gli ultimi successi pop alla radio. Al liceo, Esbjörn ha iniziato a suonare in diversi gruppi, mentre prendeva lezioni di piano. Svensson considera Chick Corea e Keith Jarrett come le sue principali influenze. È in grado di prendere in prestito le loro rispettive caratteristiche stilistiche, per quanto distinte, e di adattarle alla propria visione musicale. Ha formato il suo trio nel 1990 con il suo amico d'infanzia Magnus Östrom alla batteria. Fu nel 1993 che conobbe il terzo membro del trio, Dan Berglund, contrabbassista. The story of Anna from Berlin, who is on vacation somewhere on an island in Southeast Asia with her twelve-year-old son Max. The first images show the woman panicking underwater; only then does the film switch into vacation mode and delights with postcard shots of the Pacific paradise. The idyll is only disturbed by the noticeably darker intercutting shots of a group of locals whose behavior does not bode well. The vacation mood is abruptly ended shortly afterwards: The men turn out to be pirates who take the resort's guests hostage. However, Anna manages to escape; the first thing she does is set fire to the criminals' boats to prevent them from leaving the island.

Stop Filming Us creates a cinematic dialogue between Western perceptions and the Congolese experience of reality. While the Congolese perspective becomes increasingly clearer in the film, questions arise about the perspective of the film itself; is a white director able to make a film about the new Congolese image or is it primarily a story created by his own Western perspective?
