Branchi di squali diabolicamente astuti e feroci seminano morte e terrore nella baia africana di Port Amanzi. Il biologo marino McKray, recatosi sul posto per indagare su quello che sembra a prima vista un fenomeno inspiegabile, scopre, con la collaborazione di Corinne, sorella di un suo amico massacrato in mare, che all'origine della inconsueta aggressività degli animali c'è una potente lobby farmaceutica. Un gruppo di scienziati ha iniziato, infatti, una scellerata sperimentazione genetica per ricavare dalle cellule cerebrali degli squali un farmaco che dovrebbe segnare un decisivo passo in avanti nella lotta contro il cancro e, soprattutto, assicurare ingenti guadagni.
