Una volta accettato il fatto che Shakespeare è il più grande sceneggiatore mai esistito e che è davvero difficile prescindere da lui quando si voglia parlare di sentimenti seri, ecco che si ritenta la "contaminazione" così ben riuscita all'esordiente Luhrmann con Romeo+Giulietta: narrare una storia eterna con linguaggio attuale. L'ambiente non è dunque Cipro ma un college della Carolina del sud. Odine (Phifer) è lo studente leader, bravo in tutto, specialmente nello sport, è infatti il capitano della squadra di basket. E' amato da Desi (Stiles), bellissima e figlia del preside. Lo Jago moderno sarebbe Hugo, al quale dà corpo e volto l'emergente Josh Hartnett. La storia si sviluppa, appunto, secondo Shakespeare. Hugo instilla tremenda gelosia in Odine, che alla fine ucciderà l'amata.

Macbeth

Incitato dal responso di una profezia di tre streghe che lo vede incoronato re e dall'ambiziosa moglie, Macbeth uccide brutalmente il re Duncan di Scozia. Per assicurarsi il trono fa assassinare poi il suo fedele compagno e amico Banquo, al quale le streghe avevano promesso di diventare padre di una stirpe di re. La scia di violenza prosegue e Lady Macbeth presa forse dal rimorso si ammala gravemente per poi morire. Anche Macbeth, ormai schiavo delle predizioni delle streghe, viene infine ucciso dai rivoltosi che riportano sul trono il legittimo erede Malcolm.
