Inspired by a bad fall on a patch of black ice (that ultimately resulted in Brakhage's need for eye surgery), the filmmaker gives us something of a dreamlike descent through the fear and refractions of closed-eye vision regarding such an event.

Glaze of Cathexis

This hand-painted work is easily the most minutely detailed ever given to me to do, for it traces (as best I'm able) the hypnagogic after-effect of psychological cathexis as designed by Freud in his first (and unfinished) book on the subject - "Toward a Scientific Psychology." (SB)

Eye Myth

After the title, a white screen gives way to a series of frames suggestive of abstract art, usually with one or two colors dominating and rapid change in the images. Two figures emerge from this jungle of color: the first, a shirtless man, appears twice, coming into focus, then disappearing behind the bursts and patterns of color, then reappearing; the second figure appears later, in the right foreground. This figure suggests someone older, someone of substance. The myth? Preserved by the Academy Film Archive in 2012.

In the middle of a broadcast about Typhoon Yolanda's initial impact, reporter Jiggy Manicad was faced with the reality that he no longer had communication with his station. They were, for all intents and purposes, stranded in Tacloban. With little option, and his crew started the six hour walk to Alto, where the closest broadcast antenna was to be found. Letting the world know what was happening to was a priority, but they were driven by the need to let their families and friends know they were all still alive. Along the way, they encountered residents and victims of the massive typhoon, and with each step it became increasingly clear just how devastating this storm was. This was a storm that was going to change lives.

'Baile funk' is one of the most interesting musical movements in the world, but it comes from what is at times one of the most violent and poorest places in the world: the slums of Rio de Janeiro (favelas). This music is the personalization of the raw element. Bombastic rhythms coming from the American Miami Bass and samples are fused with powerful rap vocals using Brazilian slang. This documentary tells stories of sex, love, poverty, and pride among Rio's marginalized people. They have their own language, style, and heroes. It's a film that's fast, heavy, and violent like the city itself.

In una casa isolata di campagna, un ragazzo dorme tranquillo nella sua stanza. Ad un tratto un violento raggio verde lo avvolge ed inizia a librarlo in aria, finché - nel tentativo di volare via - non finisce sbattendo sul muro, il tutto nel pieno del sonno. L'inquadratura passa all'astronave, dove si trovano Stu, un giovane alieno verde impegnato in un'enorme consolle piena di levette, e Mr. B, un grande alieno gelatinoso col compito di esaminarlo. Il giovane extraterrestre prova tutti i modi per tirarlo fuori e catturarlo, innervosendosi e chiedendo anche aiuto, invano, finché - dopo numerosi tentavi - riesce a portarlo sull'astronave. Mentre però sta terminando la prova, si distrae e non finisce di chiudere la navicella, facendo così precipitare l'umano. L'esaminatore si affretta a riattivare il raggio e a sistemare la confusione creata da Stu.

Il tuo amico topo si inserisce nella tradizione dei cortometraggi educativi della Disney degli anni '50, e tratta del ruolo del ratto nella storia e nella società umana, ovviamente con il tono ironico proprio dei cartoon. Dopo aver analizzato gli scontri fra uomini e ratti, i due roditori protagonisti Remy e Emile auspicano infine un periodo di amicizia. A questa utopia dedicano una canzone, Plan B (Piano B in italiano), scritta appositamente per il cortometraggio da James G. Dashe (musica e testo) e Jim Capobianco (testo).

Non molto tempo fa, c'era una pecora che orgogliosamente dava sfoggio della sua lussureggiante lana mentre ballava, finché un giorno ebbe la sua prima tosatura che, aimè , la lasciò umiliata. Immersa nella sua disperazione, un passante la incontrò e trovandola sconsolata suggerì alla pecora tosata che anche senza manto di lana poteva tranquillamente ballare e mantenere il suo senso di autostima.
