Enormi tempeste vulcaniche stanno devastando la terra e uccidendo milioni di persone. Le violente eruzioni, sono causate da un'arma sismica attivata in Medio Oriente e denominata Hellstorm, che attraverso l'emissione di potentissime onde d'urto, crea profondi squarci nella crosta terrestre da cui fuoriesce magma incandescente. Tuttavia, quando la geofisica Kate ferris tenta di mettere in guardia il Dipartimento della Difesa sul fenomeno, nessuno sembra dar credito alle sue teorie.
