Le due si incontrano in game e iniziano ad esplorare il mondo di Aincrad. Improvvisamente, vengono teletrasportate insieme a tutti gli altri giocatori alla città centrale dove appare il creatore del gioco, Akiko Kaiba. Lo sviluppatore annuncia a tutti i giocatori di essere imprigionati in quel mondo e annuncia le regole: per vincere e liberare tutti bisogna completare 100 livelli, ma chi perde tutti i suoi HP, morirà nel mondo reale.
