Amor

Cutting and sewing as metaphors. Central to this work is the complex emotions surrounding love, separation, and the metonymic twinning of objects, including that of edited images and saturated sound. “AMOR is an exquisite lyric, shot in Rome and at the natural theatre of Salzburg. The recurring sounds of cutting cloth, hands clapping, hammering, and tapping underline the associations of the montage of short camera movements, which bring together the making of a suit, the restoration of a building, and details of a figure, presumably Beavers himself, standing in the natural theatre in a new suit, making a series of hand movements and gestures. A handsomely designed Italian banknote suggests the aesthetic economy of the film: the tailoring, trimming, and chiselling point to the editing of the film itself.” (P. Adams Sitney, Film Comment).

Mustard Fields

Never Ending Man - Hayao Miyazaki

Da Nausicaä della Valle del vento a Il mio vicino Totoro, da Il castello errante di Howl a Si alza il vento passando attraverso Ponyo sulla scogliera e La collina dei papaveri, Hayao Miyazaki è uno dei più grandi narratori di sempre. Nel settembre del 2013, Miyazaki annunciò il suo ritiro dal mondo del cinema d'animazione. Ma non poté trattenere il suo inarrestabile desiderio per la creazione. Kaku Arakawa, un regista della NHK che lo ha seguito per oltre 10 anni, ha documentato il riavvicinamento del maestro al mondo dell'animazione, stavolta col supporto di giovani animatori di CGI. Ma non è stato facile: Miyazaki, da sempre amante dell'animazione a mano libera, ha incontrato diversi ostacoli.

Berlino - sinfonia di una grande città

Un film documentario sperimentale tedesco girato a Berlino da Walter Ruttmann nel settembre del 1927, che descrive una giornata nella grande metropoli tedesca, che proprio in quegli annii stava vivendo un grande boom industriale, e permette di dare uno sguardo alle abitudini di vita e di lavoro di quei tempi. L'idea di Ruttman era quella rappresentare la metropoli berlinese come un organismo vivente: il regista vedeva un'analogia tra la vita della città, dal lento risveglio della città alla frenesia del giorno fino al progressivo spegnimento serale, e l'andamento di una sinfonia.
